Reading Township was organized in the Spring of 1837 by an act of the legislature. The first township meeting was held in the home of Judge John Mickle, the first settler. At that time, the present Township of Camden was a part of Reading Township and the total voting population was less than 30. In 1839, the legislature reorganized the Township, setting off Camden Township, and thus leaving Reading a Township six miles square.
Reading Township board consist of five members; Supervisor, Clerk, Treasurer and two Trustees serving four-year term. Meetings are held on the second Monday of every month at 7:00 pm.
